The training covers common mental health and substance use challenges in adults—such as depression\, anxiety\, psychosis\, and substance use disorders—and introduces a practical 5-step action plan to guide your response in both crisis and non-crisis situations. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Mental Health First Aid\n\n\n\nMental Health First Aid is a skills-based training that teaches you how to identify\, understand\, and respond to signs of mental health or substance use challenges using a 5-step action plan (ALGEE) to guide you through how to assess risk\, listen without judgment\, and connect someone to professional help. While many anticipate relief or stability\, the reality often brings unexpected changes in identity\, communication\, emotional connection\, and family dynamics. \n\n\n\nThis virtual training\, developed by Forge Health VFR in collaboration with the Veteran Spouse Network\, is specifically designed for spouses\, partners\, and loved ones navigating this significant life change. Participants will explore the psychological\, relational\, and cultural aspects of military transition\, gaining practical tools to support themselves and their families during this period of adjustment.  \n\n\n\nThere's no single timeline for military transition. Some define it as the one to two years before or after separation; for others\, the adjustment runs much longer. Wherever your family stands\, this seminar meets you there. \n\n\n\nJoin us to uncover strategies for managing common challenges like identity loss\, role renegotiation\, stress\, and emotional disconnection. You’ll leave equipped with realistic expectations\, communication tools\, and resources to foster long-term family wellness and reintegration. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Speakers\n\n\n\nDr. Sheena Bice\, DMSc\, LCMHC\, MLADC\, CCTP\, is a Marine Corps veteran with over 15 years of experience in mental health and addiction treatment for Service Members\, First Responders\, and their families. She leads Forge VFR’s Veteran and First Responder Services\, the New Hampshire Women Veterans Coalition\, and her private practice\, Shield and Compass Counseling\, PLLC. Dr. Bice is dedicated to improving access to care\, reducing stigma\, and shaping policies to support mental health and wellness. \n\n\n\nCasey Lancaster\, a Marine Corps veteran\, mental health advocate\, and former Non-Commissioned Officer and Combat Instructor\, serves as a Forge VFR Programs and Initiatives Specialist. Whether you're brand new to journaling or already filling notebooks\, each session offers a welcoming space to explore simple techniques\, reflect\, and reset. \n\n\n\nParticipants will be guided through weekly prompts and journaling exercises designed to help clear your mind\, manage stress\, and reconnect with your inner voice. Reflect & Renew is a supportive weekly journaling session designed to help you slow down\, process your thoughts\, and build habits that support well-being. \n\n\n\nJournaling is a powerful mindfulness practice that can reduce stress\, sharpen focus\, and support emotional and spiritual health. Whether you're brand new to journaling or already filling notebooks\, each session offers a welcoming space to explore simple techniques\, reflect\, and reset. \n\n\n\nParticipants will be guided through weekly prompts and journaling exercises designed to help clear your mind\, manage stress\, and reconnect with your inner voice. All writing levels are welcome\, and what’s shared in the group stays in the group. \n\n\n\nYou can join the sessions that interest you most or attend all four. The training covers common mental health and substance use challenges in adults—such as depression\, anxiety\, psychosis\, and substance use disorders—and introduces a practical 5-step action plan to guide your response in both crisis and non-crisis situations. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Mental Health First Aid\n\n\n\nMental Health First Aid is a skills-based training that teaches you how to identify\, understand\, and respond to signs of mental health or substance use challenges using a 5-step action plan (ALGEE) to guide you through how to assess risk\, listen without judgment\, and connect someone to professional help.
