Amanda Castro has been a proud military spouse, since 2009 with her active-duty husband in the U.S. Navy. They are currently stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas and have four children together. Through her own experience supporting her spouse’s military career, she has gained an insightful perspective of the unique hardships of military life and its impact on personal and professional relationships, allowing her to effectively navigate and address the complexities of military culture.
Amanda started with VSN as a Clinical Social Work Intern in January 2025, where she was gaining hands-on experience meeting with peers one-on-one and collaborating on their goals. She is excited to continue her involvement with VSN as a Peer Leader in a new capacity. Having navigated adversity herself, she brings an understanding of resilience to her work, allowing her to skillfully implement strengths-based strategies that empower individuals.
Her dedication to empowering individuals and families are established in her way of life as a military spouse, where she discovered the impact of meaningful relationships and strong community connections. She hopes participants feel comfortable enough to seek out help and know that by investing in relationships, they can cultivate the skills needed for growth and success. She has a passion for learning new things, which often include finding different games to play and teach to her family, so they can explore new concepts together.
Building on her foundational Bachelor of Science in Human Sciences, she is pursuing a Master of Social Work to expand her clinical knowledge and proficiency. She leverages her comprehensive understanding of human behavior that allows her to provide compassionate care and the advanced clinical skills that she applies directly to serve others and support VSN’s mission.
