Understanding the Unique Challenges and Needs of Veteran Families
Military service doesn’t just impact veterans—it shapes entire families. From acclimating to civilian life to navigating the VA, from caregiving to parenting, veteran families face distinct realities that require targeted support and understanding. Veteran households represent 11% of all American families, yet we know surprisingly little about their composition, challenges, and needs. Join us for an eye-opening session that dives deep into the realities of veteran family life in America today.
Dr. Carrie Farmer from the RAND Corporation will unveil findings from groundbreaking new research, Veteran Families in America, that fills this critical knowledge gap. She’ll reveal insights about veteran household composition. You’ll discover how veteran families compare to their civilian counterparts, what specific challenges they face, and most importantly, what evidence-based solutions can make a real difference for this overlooked population. This isn’t just data—it’s a roadmap for better supporting the families who have given so much to our country.
What You’ll Gain
- Clear understanding of veteran family composition and wellbeing with meaningful comparisons to non-veteran families
- Focused insights into the unique needs of single-parent veteran families and families caring for wounded, ill, or injured veterans
- Research-based policy recommendations to improve the wellbeing of veteran families and guide support efforts
