-I am Janie Smith and have been a military/veteran spouse and mother of career soldiers for over 50 years. Since 2018, I have had the exceptional honor and privilege of being a leader with VSN. The comments I have heard repeatedly in my groups are “My friends and family do not understand my challenges. They do not get it. I feel so alone.” Our staff and leaders are all military spouses who understand your issues because we have been in those very dark, unforgiving trenches.
There have been times in my own life when I was hanging by my fingernails, and even those were breaking. I did not know if I could face another day, hour, minute, or another second. Because of my own struggles, I would love to support you on your journey. There is hope when we have others who listen without judgement and understand.
Professionally, I am currently a Life Coach, specializing in trauma. Taught pre-school through high school. Served wounded Vietnam veterans at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Directed programs for active-duty soldiers and military children in Germany. Taught ‘back to work’ skills for TBI survivors. TBI support group leader. Worked with developmentally disabled adults exhibiting extreme behaviors in California. Founded Hope Beyond Trauma, authored a book “Hope Beyond Trauma…a mother’s journey.”
