Healing Through Art: Macrame & Mindfulness
July 15 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm CDT
Macrame originated from 13th-century Arabic weavers and sailors who tied intricate knots to pass the time on long voyages. The skill set became popular again in the Victorian age as people adorned their clothing with details and ornamentation. More modern-day interpretations conjure images of boho plant holders or wall hangings. Tying knots and weaving have long been a communal pastime of artisan guilds, where members share stories and build community. Maybe you have a favorite quilt made with love by a family member that tells a story.
This discipline can provide you with both a practical skill and can help to heal through the hand-and-eye connection while also practicing mindfulness or by sharing in the community together. If you love Macrame or are just curious about it, we encourage you to give it a try and join veteran spouse peer leader, Jill Evans, who will teach the art of Macrame. A supply list is provided at the bottom of the event description and equips you with supplies to complete the basic knot techniques to make either the bookmark and/or key chain. ALL skill levels are welcome.
