Trauma: Impact on Our Brain, Mind, & Body

SAVE Training VA

July 12, 2023 @ 12:00 pm 1:00 pm CDT

There is a lot of focus on the psychological impacts of trauma on the mind. However, trauma can also deeply impact the body too. Many veterans or service members may not realize that their physical health conditions are related to a traumatic event. They may exhibit physical changes, headaches, sleep apnea, behavioral changes, or suffer from chronic pain. This seminar will serve to inform on how trauma may influence the brain, mind, and body. We welcome as our guest presenter, Dr. Tatiana Londoño. Dr. Londoño serves as an assistant professor of Social Welfare at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and she is a recent alum of the Steve Hicks School of Social Work at UT Austin. Additionally, she is a first-generation Latina born in Colombia and has a passion for research with a focus on trauma on the immigrant population. Professionally, Dr. Londoño has worked in various settings such as domestic violence agencies, schools, primary care clinics, and legal non-profit organizations providing services to mostly Spanish-speaking families who experienced migration trauma. Come ready with questions, as we learn about this important topic.

Eligibility varies by session, so please check our Eventbrite page to see other social clubs that may interest you. The EmpowerEd educational series of seminars are open to all those that want to learn.
