So I Married a Veteran, Now What?
March 21 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm CDT
Less than 1% of the US population is currently serving on active duty in the military and veterans only represent 6% of the overall population. The culture of the military is incredibly unique (just like any culture), and it can be difficult to understand when you aren’t a part of it yourself.
What are all those acronyms? Why are people always joking about the Air Force or calling Marines crayon eaters? Why does my husband take it so personally when my kids don’t do their chores?
Maybe you just started dating or have married into the military culture, or you would like to better understand a veteran in your life. Military culture is complex and layered, but getting a baseline of understanding can be incredibly helpful and improve your relationship with your veteran. The VSN is excited to partner with the Virginia Department of Veteran Services and offer a class on military culture, hosted by VSN peer leaders, Sharon Dalton & Johanna Winters.
The class will run a little over 1 hour and will provide a broad overview of the different branches of service, rank, military jargon, each branch’s mission, and the challenges of military service both for the veteran and the family.
